Bio
Vincenzo Dentamaro earned a Ph.D. cum laude in Computer Science and Mathematics from the University of Bari Aldo Moro in 2022. He obtained a second level degree (MSCS) in Computer Science with a specialization in Machine Learning from the Georgia Institute of Technology, and a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and Software Production Technologies from the University of Bari.
In the academic field, Dentamaro has taught various courses and seminars, including doctoral courses on artificial intelligence applied to healthcare security at Campus Biomedico Roma and PhD in Computer Science and Mathematics of University of Bari, as well as cross-disciplinary skills course on artificial intelligence and machine learning at the University of Bari.

- CNR-STIIMA, Dr. Tiziana D’Orazio. The collaboration has as its object the research of computer vision techniques for the analysis of the gait of individuals. The collaboration took the form of a joint project and publications. Dr. D’Orazio’s group is characterized by numerous international collaborations. - STANFORD – Biomechanics Dept. Stanford, California, USA, Dr. Melissa Boswell and Prof. Scott Delp. The collaboration has as its object the development of an Android app for the recognition of pathological patterns in walking and in carrying out the 5 times sit-to-stand test. 2022-ongoing
- SYNCHROMEDIA-ETS Montreal, Prof. Mohamed Cheriet and Dr. Mohammad Hamdan. The collaboration focuses on research on neurodegenerative diseases using advanced deep learning and artificial intelligence techniques. - McGill University Montreal, Dr. Mah Parsa. The collaboration focuses on the research of multimodal methods for the diagnosis of neurodegenerative diseases and dementias. Collaboration that has led to the joint organization of the Worskhop Ai4Alzheimer, of an article entitled ‘AI and Non AI Assessments for Dementia’ and which is leading to the writing of a work on neurodegenerative diseases. 2022-ongoing.
- Campus Biomedico of Rome and Rome Tor Vergata, Collaboration with Prof. Michea Piredda of Cmapus Biomedico and Dr. Sblendorio Elena, Dr. Lo Cascio Alessio and Dr. Germini Francesco of Rome Tor Vergata regarding the use of artificial intelligence in clinical settings 2023-ongoing. Collaboration in progress and so far formalized in the article: Integrating human expertise & automated methods for a dynamic and multi-parametric evaluation of large language models’ feasibility in clinical decision-making, published in the International Journal of Medical Informatics, 105501.
Startup
Dentamaro was the founder and scientific director of research and development activities at Nextome S.r.L. which is still very active in indoor positioning link https://www.nextome.com/ he was the scientific director from 2013 to 2022.
Nextome has received numerous grants, including seven Seals of Excellence from the European Commission and numerous grants from European and national programs.
Awards and Recognitions
Dentamaro has received numerous national and international awards and recognitions. Among these, the Huawei University Challenge Italy 2021 in the Embedded AI category for the project “AUCO ResNet for Covid-19,” which improved the diagnosis of Covid-19 through radiological images. Nextome was recognized as the “Most Awesome Alpha Startup” in Dublin in 2014, and Dentamaro received the “Indoor Positioning Expert” award at the Place Conference in New York in 2015. He also won the first prize at the Busan Smart City Innovator in South Korea in 2016 and the “Global Innovator Expert” recognition at the IBM Glovators for Smart Cities in Barcelona in the same year. Additionally, he received an honorable mention at the Premio Industria Felix in 2016 for entrepreneurial excellence demonstrated in Puglia.

He has published numerous articles in high-impact international journals such as IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks and Learning Systems, Pattern Recognition, IEEE Transactions of Forensics and Security, Expert Systems with Applications, IEEE JBHI, and many others. His research topics span from artificial intelligence applied to healthcare, cybersecurity, and big data analysis.
